Head Office
Michele Valimaa - General Manager
“I have been working in care for the last 15 years. I started off in Home Care, which I found rewarding but wanted to do more and have more time with Residents. When Nicholas House opened it was time to make that move. I started here as a Care Assistant doing days and nights and worked my way up to Senior Carer, then care Supervisor which gave me the opportunity to pass on my experience to the new staff.
I was then offered the post of Deputy Manager in April 2018. I enjoy my job – we have a good staff team here and all work well together.
I became the registered home manager of Nicholas House and continued to build on my knowledge and strengthen the home. In 2023, I was promoted to General Manager of Abbeyfield Maidenhead Society, overseeing both Winton House and Nicholas House. A role which I love as I help support staff with their professional development whilst ensuring we provide the best possible care for our Residents.”

Michael Brown – Registered Home Manager
“I started my career in general building and plastering after leaving school. In my early 20s, I transitioned to managing chain pub/restaurants. Motivated by my parents’ battle with cancer, I decided to change my career path to make a meaningful difference. After my father passed away, I took a blind leap into social care in 2009, starting as a support worker for adults with complex learning difficulties.
Since then, I have been keen to progress and experience all areas of social care. I have managed five care homes before joining Abbeyfield Maidenhead, specialising in learning disabilities, dementia, and residential nursing. I have also worked for the local authority (Surrey), where I was made redundant after home closures. Subsequently, I have worked for large private providers of residential and luxury care.
At home, I dedicate my time to my family, including my two young children. My commitment to family is as strong as my dedication to my work.
I really enjoy my job, and I am confident my skills and past experience will enhance Winton House.”

Our Physiotherapy Team
There is substantial evidence to show that a combination of physiotherapy and exercise can reduce the risk of falls amongst older adults. Physiotherapy can help improve balance, strength and confidence amongst older adults and can help with both seated and standing posture. It can also help to improve fitness levels, as well as muscular strength and endurance, which can lead to improved daily function and independence. Physiotherapy can help reduce your joint pain and recover faster from injuries and surgery, such as hip or knee replacements.
As part of our care package, our physiotherapists assess each resident’s individual needs and develop a bespoke exercise plan to help them maintain mobility, strength and coordination to increase their confidence and independence. The fact we have our very own gym space at Winton House means our Physio Team can give even more specialised physio using a variety of equipment such as parallel bars, a Motomed and balance boards.
Our physiotherapists will work alongside the care staff to ensure the residents needs are being met and the service provided is being optimised for the best results. Here at The Abbeyfield Maidenhead Society, we are proud to provide this service free of charge to all residents.
