There is substantial evidence to show that a combination of physiotherapy and exercise can reduce the risk of falls amongst older adults. Physiotherapy can help improve balance, strength and confidence amongst older adults and can help with both seated and standing posture. It can also help to improve fitness levels, as well as muscular strength and endurance, which can lead to improved daily function and independence. Physiotherapy can help reduce your joint pain and recover faster from injuries and surgery, such as hip or knee replacements.
As part of our care package, our physiotherapists assess each resident’s individual needs and develop a bespoke exercise plan to help them maintain mobility, strength and coordination to increase their confidence and independence.
The benefits include:
- Assessing residents’ mobility and rehabilitation needs
- Identification of the most appropriate walking aids
- Identification of residents at risk of falls and implementation of measures to minimise this
- Increased confidence and mobility of residents leading to reduced care needs and reliance on care staff
- The resident’s progress will be observed, measured and recorded
Our physiotherapists will work alongside the care staff to ensure the residents needs are being met and the service provided is being optimised for the best results.
Both Winton House and Nicholas House provide an in-house physiotherapy service from dedicated, caring Physiotherapists who specialise in the rehabilitation of older people (www.thecaringphysio.co.uk). This service is provided free of charge to residents and has proved to be very successful in reducing the number of falls and improving residents’ mobility, confidence and comfort.
